As a theologically inspired illustrator, Karlee is interested in the devotional and liturgical possibilities of illustration. Her research investigates the role that physical sight plays in spirituality, with a particular focus on the visions of female mystics like Julian of Norwich. In studying the relationship between text and image in medieval illuminated manuscripts and art nouveau book illustration, she hopes to theorize modern applications for spiritual images that encourage holistic and embodied religious experiences.
When she’s not drawing, designing or studying, you can usually find Karlee at a ceilidh, exploring the hills and coasts of Scotland or curled up with a cup of tea and a fairytale.
