Benjamin is interested in the realm of the melancholic in sacred and secular art – particularly within popular music, poetry, film, theatre, literature, classic works of mystical/contemplative spirituality, and Biblical texts of lamentation – and the unique potential for theological reflection on hope within the affective spaces such works create.
