Under the supervision of Natasha O’Hear, Thomas is exploring questions of how photography might be positively created, used and experienced in religious contexts. Significantly, his thesis will explore potential for positive theological understandings of photography in the face of three areas of significant challenge including issues of violence and suffering, sentimentality and objectification, and the photograph’s capacity for truth. These questions will be explored also through engagement with major photographers and their work.
Thomas is an Anglican Priest and a vocational photographer. He is currently living out these vocations serving the Scottish Episcopal Church in the towns of Leven, Glenrothes, and Lochgelly, within the Diocese of St. Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane. Some of his photography can be found at www.fiatpixel.com.
